Press Release #1 Hurricane Isaias - SOE and Ocracoke Entry Restictions

07/31/2020 - The Hyde County Board of Commissioners met this morning, July 31, 2020, at 8:00am to enact a State of Emergency in advance of Hurricane Isaias that will go into effect today, July 31, 2020, at 8:00am. Ocracoke entry will be restricted immediately. Drive Through COVID-19 Testing Event for Ocracoke Cancelled

07/29/2020 - Unfortunately, Hyde County Health Department reports that the mass testing for Covid-19 scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2020 on Ocracoke Island is cancelled. MakoMedical Laboratories, Inc. contacted the Health Department today, July 29 at 12:00 p.m. to report Mako had a staffing issue for the event and therefore the event could not proceed. Read More

07/24/2020 - The Hyde County Health Department will conduct a drive through COVID-19 testing event for Ocracoke on Thursday, July 30, 2020 beginning at 2:00pm in the NPS boat ramp parking lot. Appointments are required. There are no costs for the individuals being tested. Read more

Hyde County Census Return Rate Only 38.2%

07/26/2020 - Hyde County has been advised that its 2020 Census return rate is currently ranked 94th out of 100 NC counties. This puts the county at risk for an undercount which could negatively impact future funding and resources for the next decade! Read More

Additional $125 million Appropriated to Golden LEAF for the NC COVID-19 Rapid Recovery Loan Program

05/08/2020 - Session Law 2020-4, a bipartisan effort by Governor Cooper and the NC General Assembly includes an appropriation of $125 million to Golden LEAF for the NC COVID-19 Rapid Recovery Loan Program. The NC Rural Center and partners in the NC Rapid Recovery Loan Program are receiving applications NOW and are reviewing them on a first come, first served basis. Press Release: Hyde County Commissioners Vote to Lift Ocracoke Visitor Evacuation Order on December 2

11/21/2019 - Due to the damage caused by the nor'easter, repair work to NC 12 is expected to take at least an additional two weeks to complete. With this uncertainty, the control group felt that the benchmark of having NC 12 completed before allowing re-entry should be taken out of the decision making process. The control group has therefore recommended to the board of commissioners that the evacuation order for visitors be lifted on December 2, 2019, regardless of any other setbacks. Read More
